Wright, Bradford Of Newton, age 95, died peacefully at home on June 19, 2014, following a brief illness. Born August 28, 1918 to Cecil Wright and Clara Holman Wright, he was raised in Glens Falls, NY by his father and stepmother, Eunice Stewart Wright, and graduated from Glens Falls High School and Phillips Academy, Andover. While a student at Yale, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, serving in Europe after D-Day and stateside during the Korean War. He graduated from Yale in 1949, and married Marjorie Blackwood of Woodbury, NJ. Mr. Wright earned a Master's degree in political science from Columbia, and taught history at Brookline High for 34 years. Numerous professional historians and college professors speak glowingly of his teaching and the influence he had on their lives. Mr. Wright was a musician of note, serving as organist and choirmaster at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton for 43 years. He was also active in music at Trinity Church in Boston. After retirement he joined All Saints in Brookline where he enjoyed the excellent music program and the kindness of the parishioners. He enjoyed telling stories about family history and his love of Lake George in upstate New York. He was a man of strong faith and integrity, who showed great commitment to his country and deep love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie, his children, Barbara, William, and Virginia, and four grandchildren. A memorial service will take place in the fall. I was privileged to be a student in Mr. Wright's American History class in my junior year at Brookline High 1959-60. He came to a number of our reunions and we exchanged reminiscences and via mail, particularly about classmates who had died prematurely.
I hadn't known of his musical talents or of his military service in both WWII and Korea. He was so modest, but at least now we know that we were taught the history of our country by a member of "the greatest generation."
What a gift it would be if every high school student in the USA could be as fortunate as we were to have such a teacher.

I am so very sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Wright. I was BHS Class of '76......he and Jim Dudley were the reasons I stayed in school, they were the only classes I really cared about. Although we havent seen him for awhile we always loved to see Mr Whitmore come into the Post Office . When leaving he would always say "See you around the campus " . Alwaus spoke lovely about his wife . So very sorry for your loss

I took two courses from Mr. Wright in 58-59 and 59-60. In a school full of good teachers and stimulating courses, these two were the best and he was my favorite. There is not a day when I read the paper that I do not think of what he taught me. Interestingly, although I read about his interest in his faith, those views never came out in his classroom; on the contrary he taught me the importance of the separation of church and state which remains critical in my political thinking today. The highest praise follows: he was a great teacher.

Who can forget Mr. Wright's red hair with a white streak and, more importantly, his stellar teaching of history? He was an early inspiration for me to become a teacher.
