We speak often of Ann in our family. We only wish we had found "our cousin" earlier in our lives. She was always such a joy. Some of her witty sayings have become part of our conversations, too. She is missed.

On this anniversary of her passing, I remember a lady who made such a difference in the world and in the people around her. Her love of gardening will live on in the many gardeners she inspired.

Not a week goes by without speaking of her. So many things remind me of her, particularly in nature, in the gardens, on the water. What a beautiful spirit she had and I am so happy to still be in communication with her son and daughter-in-law and her two very brilliant grandchildren.

I still think of Ann often and speak of her, also. In fact, at the Father's Day dinner table yesterday we were remembering her visit to our River Road house and how much fun we all had together. Here she is on the Mississippi River levee in front of our house with family Abbot Justin Brown of St. Joseph's Abbey, my husband, my niece and her husband and my nephew. A terrible storm was brewing behind us but Ann didn't mind at all and was enjoying the sights.

Ann did believe if a persons name is said
and in your thoughts , they live forever
The fact you wrote that on the 5th anniversary of
Anns passing, and my coming across that statement
From you, proves to me it is true
Thank you

It has been five years since you're gone from this earth. There is a Scottish saying "As long as there is someone alive to speak your name, you shall never die". We think of you and speak of you often. Blessed memories.

Dear Daniel. I only heard todayb janipuary 2015 that your brilliant, lovely, witty, talented mother died last June. I am the English margaret who first met her in 1952 before either of us were married, she at Radcliffe, I at Girton Cambridge, because the Rosenbkums lived next door to my cousin Bud Gibbs. Your parents were quite superb to my son also a Daniel when he was at Harvard. Ann was so special, and fun. She and Manfredo also visited us when we had house in Tuscany.
I am so sorry. I had emailed often and wondered that no reply. I am so so sorry. I often stayed in her lovely house and also once visited on Mathas Vineyard. What a loss. I was so shocked to hear that she had died. Such a vital, person, with such exquisite taste and appreciating of the best of things. And so generous and kind to Dan and to me on my visits to the US. May she Rest. In Peace. Wish u had been there in her garden to say my goodbyes. Live margaret Owen London UK

Dear Daniel:
I left a message on the answering machine on the Vineyard inviting Ann to dinner as we have done for many years (we always spend a few days on the Vineyard then.
When I had no answer I had a sudden premonition and discovered the truth. Ann and I were from Hyde Park and attended the Lab School. I was a year behind but my late sister was in her class. They used to play a vicious game of field hockey.
Our visits together were always a wash of nostalgia. We will miss her and send you our warmest condolences. Will and Alexandra Watkins.

Ann was a cherished friend whose interest in the arts, gardening, music and theatre held no bounds. We, in Louisiana, who knew her will miss her gentle ways and will miss hearing her regale stories of her family and her beloved pet, Muffin. I am posting a photo of her with some of my family on top of the levee of the Mississippi River. When the storm got closer we ran down the levee and on to my porch where we ate ice cream with strawberries and sang "Old Man River" and had good laughs. Blessed memory.
