LEW LEE Obituary

LEE, Lew Yoke Heung Formerly of Quincy, wife of the late Ming P. (Eddie) Lee, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at age 92 with her family at her side on September 24, 2014. Lew was born in Taishan, China and is the second eldest of eleven children. She married Ming in 1939, a World War II veteran. She immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1947 when she was 24. Lew Yoke Heung Lee and her husband had ten children. The family moved to Quincy in 1964 and was one of the first Chinese families in Quincy. The couple started, owned and operated the China Star, the largest Chinese restaurant in Quincy. When her husband was killed in a tragic car accident in 1965, Mrs. Lee took over the restaurant business and raised her eight children, six girls and two boys, ranging in ages from five to sixteen. Her oldest daughter was married and living in Chicago at that time. After successfully operating the restaurant for 22 years and putting all of her children through college, Mrs. Lee retired in 1987. In her retirement, she indulged in her greatest joy which was cooking for her children, seventeen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many friends. Her table was always open whether at the China Star or at her home. Mrs. Lee's eldest daughter passed away shortly after birth. She is survived by her nine children, Jannie and James Mark, Melinda and Ernest Jones, Loretta and Toni Bianco Lee, Wanda and Richard Soo Hoo, Priscilla and Daniel Eng, Suzanne and Paul DeLuca, Lisa and Michael Fahie, Steven and Mary Lee, Edward and Elizabeth Lee; beloved grandmother of Bonnie and Bob Monahan, the late Michael Mark, Raymond Mark, Richard and Libby Soo Hoo, and David Soo Hoo, Alena and Gregory Guerra, Darren and Gregory Eng, Matthew and Alex Chin, Chad and Justin DeLuca, Michael Fahie, Cary and Taylor Lee, Hannah, Benjamin and Zachary Lee; beloved great grandmother of Michael and Colin Monahan and Adrianna Guerra. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, October 3 from 4-8pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday at 9am in the funeral home. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
