May his gentle soul rest in peace and you feel his warmth wrapped around you as you keep fond memories close. I found him to be such an inspiring, delightful man as he took care of me. Though some time has passed, the void in life is never filled. Recently I was graced with the pleasure of meeting your granddaughter Bianca at a local Boston competition. She has been blessed with many similar characteristics as Dr.Kini. She reminded me so much of her grandfather in many ways, both with a gentle loving spirit.

Dear Kini family members,
I was heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dr Kini. I was a relatively young man when Dr Kini saved my vision the first time. He has done a total of five retinal repairs in all. I am now 51 yrs old. I am eternally grateful for all he has done for me. I Always looked forward to my checkups, it meant being greeted with that big warm smile. When the checkup concluded he would always say "Mr Macy the good lord is smiling upon you today" he truly made my world warm and optimistic. I and my family will miss him dearly. I know that the good lord is now smiling upon him and his remarkable heart. God Bless

Dear Joanne and family,
I only learned today about the death of my twin resident at Mass Eye and Ear. We first met in 1967 and have not kept in touch since I left Boston in 1971, I vividly recall Mohandas' wit, high work ethic and intelligence. Please accept my (and Ziva's) condolences. He was a wonderful fellow resident and I know that he favorably influenced the lives of countless people.

Dr.Kini operated on my retina in 1990, the morning after my 90 year old mother had cracked up her car. Every time I saw him for check ups he would ask how she was. He remembered every single detail of the surgery he did on each of his patients, just a remarkable man. You knew he cared about you as his warmth always made you feel special. He had classical music playing in the OR while he operated. Not only was he brilliant, but amusing, and his personality enveloped you with peace and comfort. I really love this man.

Dear Joanne,
The sad news of MO's demise has left me shattered and benumbed and I am yet to come to terms with the stark reality and magnitude of the loss, a man who would leave his impression on anyone who even had a chance meeting with him, it is little wonder that the long association and deep relationship with me make his absence a void hard to fill. His humor and ready wit were the lighter side of the man who was intensely caring, concerned and affectionate and always ready to extend a helping hand. I have always wondered and admired his scientific temperament and searching mind, always on to something new and fresh and the inimitable ringing voice with which he shared all that he perceived. A gentleman in the true spirit he would never belittle or demean a fellow human being, a lesser accomplished person like me.
We looked upon him s the very epitome of New England's intellectualism and Bostonian culture, a master of the sartorial order of the day, ever so willing to share his class and elitism with new comers to the States. An erudite scholar and excellent conversationalist he would regale guests and friends with his never ending repertoire of anecdotes and facts gathered from a life time of passionate reading.
Dr MO's association and encouragement had a deep impact on me and spurred my conviction to start a service oriented eye care centre in India which took the form of Sankara Nethralaya. I vividly recall his deep interest in conducting epidemiological studies at our institution. He was highly concerned and passionate about enhancing Medicare in his homeland and would bring instruments and equipments so thoughtfully collected like Santa Claus on his visits to India. A true friend of Sankara Nethralaya he would play the role of a warm host to our doctors visiting the USA, accommodating them at his home and tending to their needs, this was a major saving in our boarding/lodging expenses. His thoughtful donations in the 80's which were our formative years helped a fledgling institution to take a giant step forward.
I recall with nostalgia the wonderful eye surgical camp he organized at his personal cost at his native South Kanara and how he endeared himself with the local ophthalmologists with his fluency in Tulu and disarming attitude, my mind races back to indelible green memories of his Prince charming persona as he stood before Prime Minister at the Srimathi M.S.Subbulakshmi fund raiser at New Delhi, the trouble he took to arrange for the visit of his Guru Dr. Taylor Smith to India and Sankara Nethralaya and his setting up of the Ultrasonography department in 1983.
I consider myself most fortunate to have been associated with him and his most adorable family and convey my heartfelt condolences to Maya, Larissa, Mark, Tarah, Sarah and all in the family.
We all love you MO, wherever you are continue to be happy and bring cheer to one and all like you always did. Innumerable professional and personal friends
Regards
Badri, Vasanthi
and the Sankara Nethralaya family.
