DAVID GRIFFITH Obituary

Griffith, David D. 78, formerly of Lexington, MA, a retired psychiatrist, died Saturday, August 22nd at home in Marco Island, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Marcia Griffith; two sons, Mr. John Mark Griffith and wife Margit of Lincoln, Massachusetts and Mr. Jeffrey Paul Griffith and wife Heidi of Pembroke Pines, Florida and four grandchildren, David, Emma, Peirce and Garrison. He was born August 26, 1936 in Hackensack, New Jersey, the son of the late John and Florence Griffith and brother of the late J. Paul Griffith. He graduated and earned a BA from Yale University in 1957 and earned a MD from Yale Medical School in 1961. David and his wife joined Peace Corp as volunteers in 1962. They were members of one of the first medical teams and went to Sierra Leone, Africa. In 1964, he joined US Public Health Service to serve as Peace Corp physician in Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia. In 1966, David served in Washington, D.C. as the director of Far East Medical Desk for Peace Corp. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, kayaking and boating, but most importantly was loving and caring for his family. A memorial service will be held in October in Marco Island, Florida. Marcia and family: Bill & I just learned of the passing of Dr.nGriffith, our heartfelt sympathy are with you and your family. He was a great man and Dr. and helped us out in the loss of our young grandson. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. Stay strong and hold on to all the memories.
