JAMES WHITNEY Obituary

WHITNEY, James Malcolm Of Watertown & Monument Beach, MA. January 30, 2016. Age 90. Beloved husband of Edith L. (Keizer). Devoted father of Curtis Whitney of Watertown, Heather Whitney Kennedy and her husband Christopher of Weston, Holly Whitney Fitzgerald and her husband Peter of Belmont: and three grandchildren Luella Fitzgerald, Brooke Kennedy and Pierce Kennedy. Brother of the late Robert Whitney and his surviving wife Sylvia of Watertown. Niece Jackie Whitney Halas of Belmont. Also loved by many cousins. From High school he established Whitney Newspaper Company in Waltham. 1943 enlisted in the Navy and served 3 years aboard the Destroyer Escort USS HILBERT Earning 8 Battle Stars and being the first US warship in Tokyo Bay for the Surrender to End the War with Honorable Discharge as a US Navy Veteran, WW II. 1950 established J.M. Whitney Insurance & Real Estate. 1953 Malcolm Began his Assessing Officer career which would last 40+ years and establish him as an expert in Municipal finance and assessing practices. 1983 Malcolm was elected as the President of the Watertown Town Council. Malcolm was recognized as the driving force to bring Little League, Babe Ruth and Legion Baseball to Watertown with the original Playground of the first Little League game in Watertown dedicated to him in 2002. A supporter of many local charity organizations and Past President of many. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St., WATERTOWN. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Burial to follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown. Visiting hours Friday 3-7 PM In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Malcolm may be made to the Watertown Boys & Girls Club, 25 Whites Ave. Watertown, MA 02172 or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. I remember his smiling face and warm welcome in the office. This was passed on to the children, Curtis, Heather and Holly carry that warmth and friendliness with them too. Edie, Curtis, Heather & Holly, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Mal was such a great friend to my brother Jack . I think back about the ten years I worked for him and enjoyed being there. How wonderful he was to host the Mothers Day breakfast at the Elks for so many years that my mother attended.

Dear Whitney Family, We heard the sad news that Malcolm had passed. We are so sorry to hear this, he was such a lovely and kind man. You all have been fortunate to have him in your lives for so many years. Holly when my Dad was ill you were my rock and I regret that I have not been there for you. Know that not one day will go by that you will not miss your Father but that void will be filled by all the wonderful times and memories you had with him.
