GARRETT LONERGAN Obituary

LONERGAN, Garrett James His warmth and wit touched everyone he met, which is why the sudden death of Garrett James Lonergan, on July 11, has left his loved ones heartbroken. He was just 28 years old. Garrett was the son of the late Randi and Kevin Lonergan of CA. He is survived: by his sister, Deveney Lonergan-Stenger of FL, his brother, Kevin and Sister In Law, Kimberly, nieces, Lindsey and Katelyn Lonergan of CA, and brother, Dolan Lonergan of CA. He was a friend to many, and a cherished cousin. Born in Plano, Texas, Garrett lived most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area, and spent childhood summers in Cape Cod. He had recently moved to Arizona, where he had previously attended college at Arizona State. He was a smart young man, with a quirky sense of humor, who never understood why people paid for bottled water when you can get it for free. He was pragmatic, but passionate where it mattered. Garrett wasn't one to grab the spotlight, but he added an element to the atmosphere that was noticeably missed if he wasn't there. His gentle spirit was calming and enjoyable to be around. Garrett was a great listener, a gifted writer, a good friend, and a loving brother. His love for ketchup was only matched with the bond he had with his two nieces, Lindsey,(13) and Katelyn, "KK",(9). He dyed Easter Eggs with them, watched Star Wars on Family movie night, and put thought into each gift he presented. His special connection with KK, his, "birthday twin" was so pure, it truly warmed your heart to see them together. A man who loved comedian, George Carlin and comedy in general, Garrett often used humor to frame the hills and valleys of his own life. One of his favorite hobbies was baseball, especially the San Francisco Giants. He was such a student of the sport, he could breakdown any game of any team, give you stats on players, and even argue why SF's one-time struggling rookie, Brandon Belt, deserved his spot on the team. Garrett was deeply loyal, and as history proves, he was right about Belt. It's only fitting that Garrett leaves this world in First place in his Fantasy Baseball League. Nevertheless, he won so many of us over here on Earth, it's still hard to accept that he was, "called up" so soon. The wake for Garrett will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday, July 21st, at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral home. 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, Jul 22 at Saint Patrick's Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial is at Saint Anthony's Cemetery, 167 East Falmouth Highway (Route 28), East Falmouth. Reception to follow at Coonamessett Inn, 311 Gifford Street, Falmouth, MA. I'm so so sad you have left us. I'd hoped one day to see you again and be able to tell you to your sweet face what a wonderful little boy you were. What joy you and your brother brought to my life...
I guess I will have to wait till heaven. Love you Garrett.

My deepest sympathy to the Lonergan family and all who loved Garrett.

Meeting Garrett for the first time when he was little more than a baby, it was striking to note just how bright and articulate he was. He asked insightful and thoughtful questions in a surprisingly straightforward manner that would have been sophisticated for a 10 year old! He also demonstrated an amazing memory for facts when he was able to provide Baseball stats at about 3 yrs. old that Kevin had told him about a year before. The world has surely lost a great mind in addition to a brother, uncle, nephew and friend. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him.

This obituary perfectly captures Garrett's essence. I am smiling now thinking of his wry but somehow warm wit.

I can't describe in words how heartbroken I am over the sudden passing of one of my closest friends. We had so many adventures and memories yet to be made, and countless anecdotes (unfunny to most others) to bring awkward grins to our future faces.

So many of my fondest and most vivid memories include Garrett, and that's not a coincidence; all those close to him can say the same. He had the unique ability to turn a typical moment into something worth remembering. It's that, along with his incomparable loyalty as a friend, and everything he was as a person, are what I, and so many others, will miss about Garrett.

Farewell, Garrett. You will always be a part of me.
