First of all, I would like to express my condolences for Mr. Romanow. My father, Oscar W. Harper boarded the USS Monticello on Oct. 22,1945 and he served with my father with the 34th Infantry. My dad was a mule skinner and he was wounded 4 times and received the Purple Heart. There were 6,470 troops about the ship which embarked in Norfolk, Va. on Nov. 3, 1945. Mr. Romanow was interviewed in the Oct. 22, 1945 newspaper which I have. He said after considerable fox-hole meditations, has decided to make politics his career. I will see if I can get the paper copied and I can send it to you. I'm a Vietnam Veteran but the WWII veterans were truly American hero's. He was blessed to have lived so long with an amazing family. Take care Frank Harper. Here is my dad and I'm sure they crossed paths on the Monticello. Dad is has the helmet on. Tony is the little Italian kid who my dad rescued.

I'm writing very belatedly to express my condolences to all of you. I remember you all well from our being neighbors so long ago. I saw Janet and Jean when I was in Natick in 2015 at the NHS 50th reunion as a guest and also saw Doug Moore. Hope you are all well. Nancy Parsons Millwater, Cincinnati, Ohio.

We are truly sorry for your loss. We can only imagine the grief that you must be feeling, losing someone so close to you. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. My deepest condolences (1 Peter 5:6,7).

A few of us from the YMCA were part of a luncheon group called the "Y's guys", talking work experiences and politics. Most were members of The Greatest Generation and proudly served during WWII. Lee is remembered as a most interesting contributor to these very lively discussions.
