O'BRIEN, Edward John IV Died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Louisville on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He was 62 years old.

Born and raised in Louisville, Ed was the son of the late Alexander Garcin O'Brien and the late Anna Belle Irvin O'Brien. He was also predeceased by his brother-in- law Robert Lewis Clark of Dayton, Ohio. Ed was a graduate of Kentucky Country Day and the University of the South, Sewanee, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. After graduating with a degree in English Literature he enjoyed a successful 38 year career in banking and finance which included positions as the Executive VP & Global Corporate Treasurer at State Street Bank in Boston, where he managed the largest global securities lending, and collateral management program in the world; Sr. VP & Group Manager of Global Securities Lending at Mellon Bank in Pittsburg; and Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer at Atlas Brown, Inc., and most recently a Director and Management Consultant at Berkeley Research Group. Ed has traveled the globe many times over and lived in New York, Pittsburgh, Boston, and in recent years back in his home town of Louisville.

A world traveler, a fly fishing enthusiast, and most especially an avid golfer, Ed was fortunate to have played his beloved game on some of the most magnificent and storied courses on four continents. He was a member of The International Club in Bolton, MA and Louisville Country Club. He served on the Alumni Board at Sewanee and was a member of the General Society of Colonial Wars.

Ed is survived by his two sons whom he loved dearly and of whom he was most proud of, Owen Patrick O'Brien and Joshua Conor O'Brien; their mother Janet Tischler O'Brien, all of Lincoln, MA; his two sisters; Lindsey Boyd Clark of Dayton,Ohio, and Elizabeth O'Brien Duncan (Doug) of Atlanta, GA; and his brother, Thomas Gavin O'Brien, Sr. (Teresa) of Louisville, and many nieces and nephews to whom "Eddie" was the fun and dearly cherished uncle. Ed is also survived by his beloved favorite golf partner, loving companion and significant other, Martha Steltenpohl McMahon.

A loving and devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend, Ed will also be remembered as an honorable man and a true gentleman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Pearson's Funeral Home located at 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial mass at 12:00 noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church located at 501 Cherrywood Road.
