KATHLEEN CHIN Obituary

CHIN, Kathleen Lai Yung Wong Of Boston and Brookline passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017 at Tufts Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Devoted wife of Frank F. Chin and beloved mother of Mark F. Chin and Melba Yee Chin, and grandmother of Connor, Lindsey and Zoe Chin of Lexington. Kathleen was born in Guang Zhou, Guongdong Province, China on July 15, 1933. She was the oldest daughter of the late Mr. Gow Sue Wong and late Yee Moon Chou Wong of Brookline. Her older brother, Mr. David Shui Ying Wong preceded her. She is survived by her younger sister Irene Gan, and her husband Wayne Gan of Toronto, Ontario Canada, and her sister-in-law Margaret Yuu Wong. Cherished relatives include 30 nieces and nephews, 59 grandnieces and grandnephews. Kathleen and Frank celebrated 55 years of marriage last July. In her youth, she was an expert seamstress and designer of wedding gowns, and later was the owner and operator of the famous "Cathay Corner" Gift and Antique shop in the center of Boston's Chinatown. Her natural disposition was one of generosity and kindness which earned her countless friends and customers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Friends and Relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours on May 8th, 2017 at 3pm to 9pm at Wing Fook Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on May 9th, 2017 at 9am, procession will leave at 11am. Interment will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either: Kwong Kow Chinese School or Boston Youth Essential Services (Y.E.S.). Auntie Kay was a beautiful women. She welcomed everyone into Cathay Corner and in her home. Uncle Frank used to say that they received more friends than customers. She always provided good and practical advice.

Chinatown lost a true advocate.
