ALAN PEARLMAN Obituary

PEARLMAN, Alan R. Age 93, of Newton, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Alan was born in New York City on June 7, 1925. He was an electronic engineer, best known as the founder of ARP Instruments, Inc., one of the early leading American synthesizer manufacturers. Many legendary artists used ARP instruments in their music, including Pete Townshend, David Bowie, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder. Alan was also a passionate pianist, and loved arts. He was a humanitarian, and was concerned about global warming. He is remembered by musicians as a mentor, and by family and friends as a compassionate and supportive man who was kind, gentle and generous. Alan is survived by his beloved wife Buena Alcalay Pearlman, and loving daughter Dina Ruth Pearlman of Kingston, New York, as well as many nephews and cousins. Services at Temple Shalom of Newton, 175 Temple St., Newton on Wednesday, January 9 at 12:30pm. Burial at Hand-in-Hand Cemetery, 2659 Centre St., West Roxbury. Following burial, shiva will be held until 7:00pm, and on Thursday from 1-4:00pm.
