MANNING Allen R. “Big Al”, age 59, of Chelsea, formerly of Boston, died unexpectedly, Monday, October 7, 2013 at his home. He was born, raised, and educated in Quincy. He has lived in Chelsea for two years, previously living in Boston. Allen served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge. He worked as a maintenance technician at The Green House Apartments in Boston for over ten years. Allen was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Beloved son of the late Francis and Helen (Mulvey) Manning. Devoted brother of Paul “Ronnie” Manning and his wife Carol of Stoughton, Barbara Dinsmore of Dorchester, Kenneth Manning, the late Joan Marie Manning, the late Francis “Frankie” Manning, the late James “Jimmy” Manning, the late Carol Dorney, the late Helen Damon, and the late Lawrence “Larry” Manning. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, QUINCY, Wednesday, October 16 at 11:15 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting prior to the service from 10:15 A.M.-11:15 A.M. Interment with Military Honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allen’s memory may be made to The Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, MA 02150. You are invited to visit or call 617-472-6344.
