SHEEHAN Barbara A. (Sullivan), known affectionately to many as “Nana B.” died unexpectedly in Dorchester on September 18, 2016 at the age of 86. Barbara was born on April 25, 1930 in Boston, MA and grew up in Dorchester and South Boston. She married the love of her life, Daniel F. Sheehan in 1956. The couple settled in the Neponset section of Dorchester, where they raised their three children; Daniel, Kathleen and Thomas. Barbara was a graduate of Carney Hospital Nursing School, and served as a nurse at that hospital. She was a dedicated and hard worker, and laid a foundation of caring for others in need that filtered down to her daughter, Kathleen, and Granddaughter Katie, as they both proudly followed in her footsteps to become nurses. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, never missing a chance to watch a game and root on the home team to victory. She looked forward to the autumn colors, big Sunday gatherings for meals, and snapping pictures with her CVS disposable cameras, often of wildlife in the yard, rain on the deck, or children playing. She took joy in caring for her cat, “Kitty” often getting up in the middle of the night to let her in or out, feed her, or socialize with her. She was a communicant of St. Brendan’s Parish, and had a quiet allegiance to both God and country. But most of all, Barbara was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her family’s accomplishments and was excited to become a “Nana” to her eight grandchildren. Barbara loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her, and she always was the life of the party. Barbara was known for her feisty, yet great sense of humor. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Daniel F. Sheehan, devoted mother of Daniel F. Sheehan and his wife Paula of Pembroke, MA, Thomas P. Sheehan and his wife, Michele of Stoneham, MA, and Kathleen Sheehan-King, and her fiance Robert Fennessy of Dorchester, with whom she made her home. She was the loving “Nana” to Daniel Jr. and Nicholas Sheehan of Pembroke, Alec and Ashley Sheehan of Stoneham, and Taylor, Stephen, Katie, and Maria King of Dorchester. She was the loving Godmother of Barbara Baker of Raynham, MA, and the loving Mother-in Law to the late Stephen King. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, and will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was the devoted sister of the late Robert Sullivan, Joanie Driscoll, Mary McDonough, Millie McDonough, and Helen Sullivan. Family and friends will gather at the John J. O’Connor & Sons Funeral Home, 740 Adams Street (near Gallivan Blvd.) DORCHESTER on Wednesday, 4:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, 15 Rita Rd., Dorchester, MA at 10 o’clock am.
