DENNIS, Carmie Lester, 75, Saco, ME. passed away on March 21, 2015 at the Monarch Assisted Living Center in Saco, Maine. Carmie was born October 24, 1939 in the Exway Community of Richmond County, North Carolina, a son of Carmie Lee and Mavis Hutchinson Dennis. He graduated high school and served with honor in the United States Air Force. His duty as a cryptographer in Morocco led to awards and commendations for devotion and meritorious conduct. Following his tour of duty with the Air Force, he moved to New York where he was a writer for Dance Magazine for a few years. He moved to Boston and after years of working from the very bottom of the ladder he eventually succeeded becoming Regional Director for Brunschwig and Fils, a world renowned supplier of fine fabrics and home furnishings for the Interior Design Industry. During his 35 year career at Brunschwig and Fils, his dedication and accomplishments remain unmatched to this day. To state that Carmie was the “Designer’s Guru” says it all. He guided and encouraged countless upcoming designers throughout his career and the Junior League of Boston Show Houses were clearly an indication of his skill as a mentor and superb salesman. Carmie’s success and influence is clearly evident in the lives of so many he touched with his skills, intuition, hard work and constant determination. There will never be another Carmie in the industry. He was truly “One of a Kind”. Carmie was an avid reader and his knowledge of history, especially Russian, was remarkable. He was intrigued and fascinated by all civilizations and their culture. This curiosity enhanced his ability to help designers by knowing first hand all the elements of design from past to present. He never stopped researching and learning to even the last days of his employment at Brunschwig. He also spent many years volunteering his time at the Congregational Church in Brighton Center and became a Deacon while he served the community there. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, James M. and Marian Brock Dennis of Wadesboro, North Carolina; his long-time friend Paul Noel of Wells, Maine, his nieces and nephews and their families along with an aunt and numerous cousins. In additions to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Pansy Dennis Munno and Peggy Dennis Cloud. There will be a private graveside service at the Lilesville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his parents and sister. Arrangements are with Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco, MAINE. Memorial donations may be made in Carmie’s honor to the Animal Rescue League and Humane Society.
