Charles Vincent Hickey Notice
HICKEY Charles Vincent, of Weymouth age 82, passed away at home on October 20, 2013. He had been ill for some time. He has joined his son, Saint Charles Vincent, who died as an infant. Charlie was born and grew up in Dorchester and had lived in Weymouth for over 50 years. He graduated from St. Peter's Elementary School, Newman Preparatory School in Boston, Boston Teachers College (BA), and received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he also served in the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Hickey taught in the Quincy Public Schools for 41 years until retirement in 1993. A member of St. Albert the Great Parish in Weymouth, Charlie served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Confirmation teacher, and member of the Liturgy Committee and the parish choir. In the community, Charlie was a Town Meeting member for many years. He also served as Seach School building Committee Chairman, Assistant Scout Master for Troop 121, and Library Trustee until his death, serving as Chairman for a number of years.For many years, Charlie and his wife, Mary Jeanne, were active in the Christian Family Movement (CFM) and Marriage Preparation programs throughout the Archdiocese. They also taught Natural Family Planning (NFP). His interests have included family camping, genealogy, cooking, and reading, reading, reading. One of his major achievements was losing over 100 pounds and becoming a Weight Watchers Lifetime member. Charles has chosen to donate his body for research. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Mary Jeanne (Hurley); one daughter, Regina Christine and her husband Kevin Barnett of Eagle River, Alaska; four sons, Mark E. and his wife Patty, Herbert J., George A. and his wife Bette, all of Weymouth; Charles F. and his wife Sarah of Halifax and the late Charles V. Jr., as well as grandchildren John, Elizabeth, Thomas and Ryan of Weymouth and Emily and Katherine of Halifax. He is also survived by a brother, George S. of Melrose, the late Joseph M., Herbert A. and Paul F. Hickey and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to visit at his home on Thursday. Mass of Celebration at St. Albert the Great Church, East Weymouth, on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a luncheon in the lower church hall.
