RUSSELL David F., 76, of Brockton and West Harwich, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. He was the devoted loving husband of the late Sarah A. “Sally” (Osborne) Russell to whom he was married for 48 years who passed away February 26, 2015. Born Tuesday, August 16, 1938 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Francis J. Russell and Mary C. (Higgins) Russell. Raised in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School 1956. He then received his Funeral Director and Embalmer License from the New England Institute of Funeral Service in Boston in 1960. David was the owner of his family business, The Russell & Pica Funeral Home where he proudly served the Brockton community for 55 years with compassion and dignity. In earlier years he spent summers at New Silver Beach where he learned to enjoy sailing. It was there that he developed cherished friendships that have lasted a lifetime. He was proud and honored to share values and dedication to funeral service with a select group of professional colleagues whom he also considered close friends. While living in Brockton, he was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and served on the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister. In more recent years, he enjoyed time spent at his home in West Harwich where he was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish, former member of Allen’s Harbor Yacht Club and member of the Hyannis Yacht Club. For several years he spent winters in Naples, Florida where he was a communicant of St. John Parish. The three most cherished parts of David’s life were his Catholic Faith, his loving family, and his many loyal friends. His faith was both an inspiration and a source of comfort. David was happiest when he was able to share leisure time with those he loved. Traveling, taking cruises, golfing and parties with family and friends were some of the things he and Sally enjoyed the most. Annual trips to Bermuda were most special to him, it was there that he and Sally celebrated their honeymoon. David was the loving father and friend of David Francis Russell, Jr. and his wife Anne Marie, Suzanne Frances Russell Backoff and her husband Brian and Maura Ann Russell; he was the proud and loving Grampy of Daniel Francis Russell; the devoted brother of R. Terence Russell and his wife Anne Marie, Richard E. Russell and his wife Valerie, Jeanne Gawle and the late Francis J. Russell; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
