HANCOCK Doris M. (Mills), 86 of Hanson passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 15, 2016. The daughter of the late James and Agnes (Brown) Mills, she was born in Melrose on February 19, 1930. Doris grew up in Needham and was a graduate of Needham High School in 1947. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Framingham State Teachers College in 1951. Before retiring, Doris had been employed as a teacher at various age levels along with also working in restaurants and retail. In addition to masterfully raising eight beloved children, Doris was a talented chef. She was an extremely gifted seamstress, creating garments ranging from baptismal gowns, to prom dresses, and wedding gowns. She was an avid reader and volunteered for many years at the Hanson Public Library. Doris was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Halifax and St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Hanson. She was a Eucharistic Minister both at the church as well as to homebound parishioners. The door to her home was always open, and all who entered became extended family for life. Doris is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Erland (“Andy”) A. Hancock Jr. She was the mother of Cathy Casabona and her husband Steve of Putney VT, Ginny Cimorelli of South Boston, MA, Tom Hancock and his wife Jaci of Bangor, ME, Sheila Alfone and her husband Wayne of Plymouth, MA, Bob Hancock and his wife Arleen of Bridgewater, MA, Peggy Gordon and her husband Rich of Plymouth, MA, Greg Hancock of Bridgewater, MA and the late Ed Hancock. She was the sister of James Mills Jr of California, Virginia Camoreyt and her husband Lucien of Medway, and Barbara Kelliher and her husband Ken of Cape Cod. Doris was also survived by sixteen amazing grandchildren and six beautiful great grandchildren. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St, at the corner of Rte 14 & 58 in HANSON on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will celebrated on Thursday at 11:00AM at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St, Rte 14 in Hanson. Burial will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
