DWYER Eileen M. (Hayes), aged 89, of South Boston, on February 13, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence A. Dwyer. Cherished by her children Lawrence A. Dwyer, Jr., and his wife Ann Theresa of South Boston, Mary Ellen McDonough-Sinkiewicz and her husband Kenneth of South Boston, Gerard Dwyer and his wife Cynthia Strout-Dwyer of Dorchester, Kathleen Ann Dwyer of South Boston, Daniel Dwyer and his wife Anne of Hingham, the late Kevin M. Dwyer and his wife Suzanne of South Boston, Brian Dwyer and his wife Janis of Weymouth, and by her 12 surviving grandchildren. Dear sister of Timothy J. Hayes of Mansfield, the late Margaret Roche and the late Joseph Hayes. Beloved “Aunt Sis” to many nieces and nephews. A loyal 1943 graduate of Gate of Heaven High School, telephone operator 37 years with Bell Telephone Co. and its successors, and in retirement a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Sometimes strict, always loving, always busy. Eileen sang songs like “When Francis Dances With Me” and “Over at F St. & 3rd” and made them sound new, knew dozens of Irish songs, and had good taste in Catholic hymns. She danced in the kitchen with her husband; he adored her and she him, and they delighted in the company of their children. She considered herself practical, followed politics with joy and tenacity, and always voted. English murder mysteries fascinated her, and she never tired of her garden. Wise to begin with, age made her more so. Her strength was a simple decency; her faith was everything. Many from East 8th Street and beyond will remember her happily. Visiting hours in the O’Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON, Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass in Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth Street, South Boston, Wednesday at 10:15 A.M. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 637 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA 02135.
