O’BRIEN Ellen A. Lifelong resident of South Boston and member of Gate of Heaven Parish, September 7, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ellen retired from the Boston Police Department Operations Division after 30 years of dedicated service. Devoted daughter of the late Chester and Lillian (Hughes) O'Brien. Dear sister of Chester O'Brien and his wife Patricia of South Boston. Loving aunt of Kathleen O'Brien, Christopher O'Brien, his wife Nicole, and Maureen O'Brien all of South Boston. Beloved great aunt of Aidan and Brendan O'Brien. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Funeral from the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON, Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. Funeral Mass in Gate of Heaven Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ellen's memory to the Marian Manor Nursing Home, where she was cared for with great kindness and compassion, at 130 Dorchester Street, South Boston, MA 02127.
