MURPHY Jean M., 72, of West Harwich died peacefully at her home on December 8, 2015. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Crofwell) Murphy, and was raised in Stoughton. Ms. Murphy attended Fontbonne Academy in Milton, graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett, N.H., and later earned a Master’s degree. She had been an elementary school teacher in Hanover, Swampscott and, for many years, in the Chicago Public School system. Subsequently, Ms. Murphy taught ESL at the American International School in Morocco and in Croatia. As a multiculturalist, during her extensive travels, she keenly absorbed local history and culture. More recently, before her retirement, she had worked as a teacher at elementary schools in Barnstable. She is survived by her sister Virginia Koss of Harwich Port, her nephew Brian Koss of Winchester, her cousins James Langan of Boston and Carole Langan of Martha’s Vineyard, and by many friends and colleagues. Donations in her memory may be made to the Family Pantry of Cape Cod, 113 Queen Anne Rd., Harwich, MA 02645 or to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, 411 Main St. (Rte. 6A), Suite 6, Yarmouthport, MA 02675. A service will be held in the spring at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville. Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home Harwich 508-432-6696
