HARTFORD Kenneth Robert, Sr. of Newton, MA , son of the late Walter and Catherine Hartford, brother of the late Walter Hartford Jr., passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital on Friday September 20, 2013. He was born and lived his entire life in Newton, he loved the city dearly. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years Beverly (MacPhee) Hartford and his three children, Walter, Kenny, and Christy and the pride and joy of his life, his four grandchildren, J.T., Amelia, Marissa, and Anthony. He is also survived by his sister Carol Ann Mahoney as well as his many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Ken was very active in local politics and was the sitting Commissioner of the Newton Election Committee. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He worked he entire career for Raytheon and was a key member of the teams that developed the Patriot and Sidewinder missile systems. He was also a past President of the Scituate Beach Association. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street (Rte. 16), WEST NEWTON, Thursday, September 26 at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours will be held in the Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M, relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Newton Cemetery, Newton Centre.
