SANFILIPPO Margaret Helen passed away at the age of 66 on August 8, 2015 at her Somerville home. She was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, on May 20, 1949. Margaret is survived by her sister Marilyn Shaffer Sanfilippo of New Castle, PA. She was the daughter of the late Gust and Margaret (Shaffer) Sanfilippo and is predeceased by her brother Thomas Shaffer Sanfilippo. Margaret graduated with a BA from Smith College (1971) and Smith College School for Social Work (1976). She earned her MBA from Simmons Graduate School in 1989 and a paralegal certificate in 1993. Most recently, she was employed as a regulatory compliance specialist with Distrigas of MA. She contributed to her beloved Somerville community over the past 25 years with participation in the Somerville Community Chorus, Somerville Old House Organization, Somerville Garden Club, Historic Somerville, and the Somerville Museum. In 2003, her home won a Director's Award from the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. She was often seen on weekends tending gardens at the Somerville Central Library. Margaret was an avid opera lover and an excellent cook. Her gentle disposition and boundless curiosity earned her friends far and wide. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Somerville Museum, One Westwood Road, Somerville, MA 02143. A remembrance service is being planned at a later date.
