O’BRIEN Mary Christine passed away suddenly at her home in Melrose, on Friday, September 12, 2014. She was 61 years of age. Mary was born in Melrose on November 8, 1952, was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and attended Melrose High School. She has been a lifelong resident of Melrose and St. Mary’s Church in Melrose; where she worked as the cook at the rectory for many years. Mary had a heart of gold, was always there to help those family and friends in need, took wonderful care of her parents throughout their lives and would give you the shirt off her back. She was a lover of animals, a voracious reader and history buff and a wonderful cook. Mary and her mother Anne O’Brien cooked for the residents of the Levi Gould retirement Home in Melrose for many years. She was the loving mother of Daniel S. O’Brien and Deborah of Springfield. Caring daughter of the late Francis B. and Anne (O’Keefe) O’Brien. Cherished sister of Paula Govostes and her late husband Diamond of Everett, John J. O’ Brien and his wife Carol of Malden, Timothy J. O’Brien and his wife Sheri of Holliston, James B. O’Brien and his late wife Terri of Melrose and Andrea L. Coleman and her husband Dan of Saugus. Loving niece of Patricia and Ed Devine, Christopher O’Keefe and his partner Earl, Ellen O’Keefe and Joan O’Keefe. Best friend of Joni (Reggio) Nigro. Loving aunt of numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, MELROSE on Wednesday September 17 from 8:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert Street, Melrose, at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
