KELLEHER Richard J., Esq. a resident of Amesbury, Bartlett, NH and the Villages in FL. died Tuesday September 2, 2014 at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence. He was born in Newburyport, MA on September 9, 1947 to the late Judge A. Vincent and Frances I. (McCormack) Kelleher. Richard was raised and educated in Newburyport attending Immaculate Conception Grammar School and graduating from Newburyport High School in 1965. He then graduated from Providence College in 1969 followed by Suffolk Law School in 1972. Richard began his career in Law as a Public Defender and Assistant District Attorney for Essex County from 1974 to 1978, he then joined his father in private practice in Newburyport. Richard stepped away from his law practice in 1991, moving to St. Croix where he lived with his wife "Nan" for two years. Upon his return he began practicing law once again until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Newburyport, Essex County and Massachusetts Bar Associations. He was also a former Trustee and Corporator for the Newburyport 5 Cent Bank. An avid golfer Richard was a past member of Wentworth by the Sea Golf Club and a current member of the Wentworth Golf Club in Jackson NH. Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years Helen A. "Nan" Kelleher of Amesbury, siblings Peter E. Kelleher and his wife Laurie of Salisbury, and Margaret McClure of West Newbury. He was predeceased by his siblings Arthur V. Kelleher Jr. and Elizabeth M. Perkins as well as brother in law Milton McClure. Family and friends may call on Thursday September 4, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. NEWBURYPORT, MA 01950. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday September 5, 2014 at Noon at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery also in Newburyport.
