WELCH Rose Catherine (O’Brien), age 97, longtime Newburyport resident passed quietly at Country Center for Health & Rehab in Newburyport on Friday evening, July 1, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Welch, who passed in 1965. Born in South Boston, March 4, 1919, she was one of six children of the late John A. and Rose C. (Gallagher) O’Brien and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. For many years Rose worked as an assistant cook at the Newburyport Middle School as well as the High School. In her younger years, she had worked at the former Jordan Marsh in both their Boston and Peabody stores. She was a woman of great faith, was a devout member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport and was the most kind, loving and understanding mother, grandmother and friend that anyone could ever ask for. She leaves behind a legacy of memories more precious and priceless than life itself to her children, Robert F. Welch and Eileen H. McConologue of Newburyport; her grandchildren, Wayne and Kevin McConologue; her siblings, Eleanor Anzivino, Marion Burns and John O’Brien, as well as her many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Marguerite O’Brien and her brother, Leo O’Brien. Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:30A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport. Burial will follow at 1:30 P.M. at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury.
