OSTROWSKI Veronica S. age 83, of Shapleigh, ME and formerly of Chelsea, MA, died unexpectedly at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine on Monday, October 7, 2013. She was born in Marseille, France on September 14, 1930, the daughter of Jose F. and Lois H. (Joyce) deVallet. When she was 8 years old, her family escaped Nazi occupied France and headed for Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Later the family relocated to the Back Bay area where she attended Boston Schools. Veronica graduated from Winthrop Nursing School as an L.P.N. in 1974. She would practice nursing at various nursing homes, Mass General and the Soldier’s Home before completing her nursing career at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, where she remained for many years. She and her husband Walter, who fondly called her “Toody”, raised their family in Chelsea, MA. Her children recall celebrating their parents 25th Wedding Anniversary during the Blizzard of 1978. Veronica enjoyed riding through the countryside, reading and dabbling with sewing projects. She had a fondness of music; learning to play the guitar and violin. When her arthritis forced her to give up playing music, she continued attending various concerts. In 1995, their son built them their new home on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine where she loved to swim. Veronica was pre-deceased by her husband of 47 years, Walter Ostrowski in 2000; her son Guy Ostrowski in 1965 and granddaughter Andrea Taylor in 2005. She will be sorely missed by her son Jan Ostrowski of Boston, MA; three daughters, Michelle Taylor of Malden, MA, Mary Ann “Gaby” Ostrowski of Haverhill, MA, Regina Serrano and her husband Julio of Tewksbury, MA; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her special friend, Doug Theiss.
