CALLAHAN William A. a lifelong resident of South Boston, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2015, at the age of 90. Born May 15, 1925, the cherished son of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Curran) Callahan. Beloved husband of the late Beulah (Berg) Callahan. Predeceased by his son William Callahan. Devoted father of Jack Callahan, his wife Patricia of Milton, James Callahan, his late wife Ann of South Boston, Joseph Callahan, his wife Judy of Stoughton, Mary Callahan of South Boston, Joanne Callahan of South Boston, Teresa Murren, her husband Kevin of Plymouth and Kevin Flanagan of South Boston. Loving "Papa" to 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Rose Mary Green of Chatham, the late John "Jack" Callahan, Joseph Callahan and Rita West. Dear friend of Jeanne Chmura and William O'Neil from the Foley Apartments. William served honorably in the US Navy Seabees and was a veteran of World War II. Upon retiring from the Navy he joined the Laborers Union, Local 223. One of his accomplishments was his contribution to the building of the New England Aquarium. William then joined and retired from the MBTA. He will be truly missed. The impact he had on others is indescribable. He touched many lives. The world lost a great man and his family will forever cherish the peaceful memories they built with him. Visiting hours in the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON, Monday from 4:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass in St. Monica Church on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Relatives and friends are invited to attend all Services.
