MCCARTHY Ronald John, Jr., 41, of Tampa, Florida, died on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Tampa General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Ron was born in Salem, Massachusetts on June 27, 1972 to Ronald and Carol (Gould) McCarthy. Ron married Patricia Cuba on January 30, 2009 in Tampa, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Patricia and their children Gabriella, 4, and Liam, 22 months, of Tampa. He was predeceased by his mother, Carol McCarthy. He is also survived by his father and his wife, Ron and Ruth McCarthy, his brothers and sister-in-laws, Michael and Jaclyn McCarthy, Tim and Lily McCarthy, and sisters and brother-in-laws, Carol-Ann and Bob Silva, and Diane and Craig Rothburd as well as step-siblings Christopher and Nicole York. He will be sadly missed by his nieces Ally, Anna, and Amanda Silva, Riley and Teagan McCarthy and nephews Max and Sam Rothburd. Ron graduated from Saugus High School in Saugus, Massachusetts where he was captain of the varsity basketball team. He continued his education at The University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Ron continued to have success on the basketball court as he attained over 1000 career points during his college career. Ron proudly worked as a Regional Director of Operations of Solaris Rehabilitation Company in Naples, Florida. Ron continued his passion for the game of basketball as a division two NCAA college basketball referee. Ron will be remembered as an avid storyteller and lover of laughter. He will most importantly be remembered as a great husband, father, son, and brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Services will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at 605 S. MacDill Ave., TAMPA, FLORIDA with visitation on Friday, March 21st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. & a memorial service on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00 A.M. May the road rise up to meet you...
