IZZO Fr. Januarius Izzo, OFM, age 80, passed away on August 23, 2014 at Marion Manor in South Boston, MA. Born Francis Edmond, the son of Emile and Marie (Fitzpatrick) Izzo on April 23, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. He was received into the First Order on August 15, 1953 and made his temporary profession on August 16, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Novitiate in Troy, NY. His ministerial assignments were varied and many. He worked as the Provincial Vocation Director, Instructor, Guardian, Formator, Pastor, and Canonist for many years. On July 4, 1968, he was elevated to Mitered Archimandrite of the Byzantine Rite by the Most Rev. Andrew Katkoff in the Basilica of St. Clement in Rome, Italy. His many years of service to the Byzantine Catholic community are to be commended and admired. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Corner of Hanover and Prince Streets, Boston on Thursday, August 28th at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be in St. Leonard Church on Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a wake service at 7:30 P.M. Services will conclude with interment in Friars’ Cemetery, Andover.
