LEAHY Thomas J., a Newton resident for over 60 years, May 18, 2009. A graduate of Boston College in 1951, he spent his business career at Filene’s Basement and rose to the position of buyer of women’s shoes for the entire chain. A member of the Our Lady Help of Christians Church of Newton, since 1948, he devoted the majority of his time as the Pastoral Associate. He was involved in many other activities with the church including the hand bell choir, the adult choir, religious education and the parish school. Son of the late Thomas and Mary Leahy of Springfield, MA, he leaves his brother Charles Leahy of Ludington, MI and his cousins Thomas Lynch of Newton, MA and Peter Lynch of Marblehead, MA. Father Sassani ”I have worked with Tom Leahy for the past three years. However, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Tom has touched people of every age and situation of life during the years he was working at Our Lady’s. He has certainly been a wonderful colleague to all the members of the staff who served this community with Tom.” Visiting hours will be Monday, May 25th from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 26th at 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery.
