MECONE Elizabeth Margaret passed away on January 22nd at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home for the Aged in Middleboro. She was 89 years old. “Betty” was born in Melrose and was a longtime resident of Weymouth. She was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester. She was an Executive Secretary for the Army during WWII and later went on to work as the Manager of the Fanny Farmer Candy Store at the South Shore Plaza for many years. Until her retirement, she worked at the Wishing Well Yarn Store in Norwell. Betty loved to read and crochet and was an avid Red Sox fan but she especially liked spending time with her children and grandchildren. Daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Batts) Moran, Betty was the beloved wife of the late James V. Mecone. She was the loving mother of James and his wife Nancy of Hopkinton, Elizabeth Scansaroli of Whitman, and Jack and his wife Sandy of East Freetown. Cherished Grandmother of Julie Scansaroli of Whitman, David Scansaroli of Boston, Jim Mecone and his wife Ali of Severna Park, MD, Jack Mecone of Boston, Ashley Jonas and her husband Steve of Brookline, Melanie Bentley and her husband Brian of Assonet, and Josh White and his fianc Wanakee of New Bedford. Adoring Great-Grandmother of Ella, Samantha, Megan and Aiden. Betty was predeceased by her dear sisters Virginia Moran of Boston, Marjorie Cullinan of South Weymouth, and Carolyn Vitagliano of White Bear Lake, MN. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Hannah Shaw Home for the wonderful care provided to their Mother.
