ELSIE LYLE THOMAS RICE

Elsie Lyle Thomas Rice of Three Forks passed away June 19, 2014.

Elsie was born February 26, 1920 in Clinton, Mo. to John and Bessie (Tannehill) Thomas. Her parents, brother, and Elsie came to Salesville (Gallatin Gateway), Mont. in 1920.

The Irving and Emerson were the elementary schools she attended, graduating from Gallatin County High School in 1939. Elsie and her friends liked to go dancing at the Eagle's Hall on Saturday nights. She met Lauren Rice while dancing there. Lauren and Elsie were married April 15, 1943 in Bozeman, Mont.

Elsie enjoyed cooking dinners for relatives and friends on Sunday and special occasions. She loved to crochet and knit and also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas on vacations with Lauren. She loved to play cards and work puzzles.

Elsie was a member of the Eastern Star Three Rivers Chapter #56, the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, Three Rivers Senior Social Club and the Royal Neighbors of America. Helping all organizations and the community to raise money for their causes was enjoyed. Elsie was the American Legion Woman of the Year of 1988 for the State of Montana at the National Convention at Louisville, Kentucky. Lauren and Elsie were Senior Citizens of the year in 1996 for the Area 4 of Montana.

Lauren and Elsie made their home in Three Forks in January of 1946. She lived there after Lauren's passing until she was unable to care for herself; at which time she chose to live at Pathways Assisted Living.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Gene.

She is survived by nieces, Beverly Young and sons, Jonathan, Jason, Jeremy and their families from Maryland: and Karen (Art) Kalberg, their son Kevin and family, and their daughter Kaaren (Brandon) Kim and family from Washington, brother-in-law Leland (Bettye) Rice from Missouri and their daughter Linda (Daniel) Lorenzetti from Texas, and Donna (Brian) Faison from North Dakota, and their sons and families. Also, many cousins and friends survive. Special friends are Debra Ferrin, Joan Dorsey, Evelyn Brainard and the late Dorothy Wilcox. Velma Knowles was a buddy at Pathways before her death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. from the K&L Mortuary Chapel at Three Forks. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Three Forks
