Gary Jay Dykman, 71, was called home to his Heavenly Father on July 14, 2014. He died at home surrounded by his wife and family at his side after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Gary was born June 29, 1943, to Herman and Lena (Dyk) Dykman in Lynden, Wash. He moved to Manhattan, Mont. in 1951.
Gary joined the Army
in November 1962 and was discharged in 1968.
He moved to Denver, Colo. in 1967 and worked at Kroonenberg Lumber. There he met his wife, Karen Visscher. They were married May 15, 1970. Gary, with his family, moved back to Montana in 1974 where he had a dairy for 15 years and shipped milk to Darigold. He then went to work at Kenyon Noble for 20 years.
Gary attended Manhattan Christian School and was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church where he served as Deacon and Elder for many terms.
He loved to hunt and fish, but his favorite sport was bowling where in 2002 he bowled a 202 triplicate.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lena Dykman; and sister, Arlene (Dykman) Byker. He is survived by his wife, Karen; and three sons, Tim, Terry (Callie), and Trent; three grandchildren, Lainie, Waylon and Lorina, whom were his pride and joy and considered him the BEST GRANDPA EVER! Also surviving are his sisters, Pat (Con) Holleman, Marcia (Denny) McClung; and brother-in-law, Ralph Byker.
The family would like to thank Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their great care.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 18 from noon to 7 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church with interment to follow at Churchill Cemetery.
