J. Neville Haggerty, 73, of Bozeman passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.
Born in Newton and raised in Framingham, Mass., Neville graduated from Harvard University
cum laude in 1961, where he made and maintained lifelong friendships. He served his country as an air intelligence officer with the Navy's Seventh Fleet from 1962 to 1966. He met Kate Thomas while on naval leave in Hong Kong in 1964. The two married in Fresno, Calif., in 1967.
Neville developed a unique professional expertise as an expert in business systems integration. Over the course of his career, he held positions with NBC, IBM, General Foods and Wang Laboratories and later worked with numerous other enterprises as a private consultant under the name "Information Strategies." In 1973, he earned a Masters in Business Administration from Clark University. An energetic teacher who enthusiastically embraced the computing age, Neville was deeply committed to helping businesses maximize the benefits of emerging technologies.
Neville was a skilled illustrator, painter and storyteller. In his retirement from work and marathon running, he enjoyed creating hand-illustrated story books for his grandchildren.
Neville is survived by wife of 41 years, Kate Thomas of Carmel, Calif., and sons, Breckinridge Thomas of Newbury Park, Calif., and Mark Neville of Bozeman. His family will always cherish the memory of him as a selfless, loving parent devoted to his children and grandchildren, Lucy, Judith and Ben.
Neville lived for the last five years of his life in the loving care of Merlin and Holly Bylsma and their daughter, Amy, at Hilltop Assisted Living in Bridger Canyon.
Friends of Neville are invited to celebrate him at an open house in Bozeman on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Mark and Julia Haggerty's home, 217 S. Sixth Ave., from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Frontier Home Health and Hospice, 3810 Valley Commons Dr., Suite 1, Bozeman, MT 59718.
