Jimmy Wayne Pickett was born to James R. Pickett and Dorothy A. Edwards on April 5, 1948 in San Diego, Calif. He was raised by his father and his stepmother, Pauline Hobbs. He lived his life in Oklahoma, graduating from Del City High school in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 at the age of 20. Jimmy was trained in combat infantry at Fort Polk, La. He was sent to Vietnam in July 1968, where his primary mission was to combat infantryman involved with search and destroy operations. He took part in numerous combat ops while serving in Vietnam. He was wounded in combat three times and was awarded three Purple Heart
s. Other awards include two bronze stars
, Vietnam service ribbon, air medal national defense medal and several others. Jimmy was honorably discharged in February 1970. He served this country and this community as a member of the American Legion.
Jimmy was employed by American Airlines in 1968 where he met Sandi Bulgier, a stewardess. They were married in 1980 in Las Vegas, Nev. Because of this union, his daughter, Sheyanne, was born in January 1981 and his son, Cole, was born in October 1983. He later was a grandpa to Sheyanne's children, Jasmine and Lily. Over the years he enjoyed his family and different interests such as hunting, golfing, and skydiving. He was a seafood purveyor for a short time in Shamburg, Ill. He lived in various places but settled in Montana where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his children; their mother, Sandi; and his grandchildren; as well as two sisters and their spouses, Sandy Rosario and husband, Larry, and Linda Schroder and husband, Glade. His father was James Pickett and wife, Mary Holland. He also had several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at The Bridge, 608 North Jackrabbit Ln., Belgrade, Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Ft. Harrison in Helena at 3 p.m.
