Kathlyn M. (Kay) Hamilton, 99 years of age, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Gallatin County Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 28, 1914, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Archie and Jennie Kniss.
Kay's family moved to eastern Montana, near Glendive, in 1917. She graduated from Dawson County High School in 1932 and then received her teaching degree from Montana State College/Dillon. She was a rural county school teacher
from 1933 to 1939.
Kay met Berl Hamilton at a barn dance near Glendive in 1938 and fell in love. They were married on May 23, 1939. Berl was her husband, best friend, and father of their three children; Roger, Sharon and Jo. They were married for 74 years.
Kay was witty, kind and always thinking of others first. She was an avid reader and enjoyed country western music, her favorites being Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves. Her pleasures were simple and Berl and the children always came first.
Kay is survived by her husband, Berl; and two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Black, and Jo (John) Semingson, both of Helena. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Sandi Hamilton. Her son, Roger, preceded her in death in July 2012. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is pending. Memorials may be made to Gallatin County Nursing Home or the Bozeman Senior Center.
