Mavis "Pete" Jarrett (Murray), 78, peacefully passed away in her home with both of her children by her side on Wednesday November 14, 2012.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmen Smith of Norris Mont, her son Jay Jarrett and four grandchildren of Gainesville Va., and her sister Delores Kombol of Roundup Mont.
She was born on November 18, 1933 to Harry and Maude Murray of Big Timber Mont. She grew up on the family sheep ranch in Sweet Grass County and was active throughout her childhood and early adult years in local 4-H.
While working in Yellowstone Park in the early '50s, she met Paul 'Bud' Jarrett of Clyde Park Mont. and they were married in Big Timber during 1955. During their US Army
service they were stationed throughout the world and adopted their daughter in Germany and their son in California. Retirement from the Army in the '70s eventually brought them back to Big Timber and subsequently to Norris in 1995, where she has resided until her passing.
She enjoyed spending time with family members as well as her friends at the Pony Senior Center.
"Pete" was known by family, friends and the stranger who occasioned across her path as a kind and gentle woman who was always at the ready with a word of encouragement and a helping hand for all who were in need. Her personality and her sense of humor were endearing and welcomed by all at the many and frequent family gatherings she enjoyed through her full life.
She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the K&L Mortuary in Harrison with her son, Jay Jarrett, presiding. Burial will immediately follow at the Montana State Veteran's Cemetery in Fort Harrison, Montana. A reception will follow later Friday afternoon back at the Norris Bar upon the return of the family to Norris from Helena. Visitation at K&L will be on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. K&L Mortuaries is in charge of arrangements.
