Nicholas Michael Krug, 91, of Helena, passed away June 26, 2008.. at a care facility in Bozeman.
Nick was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Gladstone, N.D., to Mary and Michael Krug. He attended schools in North Dakota and the State School of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. Nick went on to serve our country honorably in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Sumpter as a first class gunner's mate, earning a Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Nick worked as a farmer and for the Northern Pacific Railroad and then went on to work for Capital Ford in Helena for many years.
Nick met Delores Darlene Underland and they were married on Dec. 26, 1947, in Dickinson, N.D., and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her passing in March of 2004.
Nick collected Lionel trains and loved fishing and camping in the great outdoors when he wasn't woodworking or bowling. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Helena and a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Michael Krug, and his wife, Delores Krug. He is survived by his daughters Sonja (Tom) Lamb of Ridgecrest, Calif., Yolonda (Art) McCready of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jolene Krug of Belgrade. Also surviving Nick are his brothers, Joe Krug, Louis Krug, John Krug and Mike Krug; sisters Elenore Honeyman, Elizabeth Rohr, Mary Meyers and Francis Marshall; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Nick is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the Retz Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials in Nick's name are suggested to the National Parkinson's Foundation, Inc., Office of Development, 1501 NW Ninth Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla, 33136-1494 or a charity of the donor's choice.
