Patrick Ryan Jr. Obituary

Patrick Joseph Ryan Jr., age 78, died Dec. 22, 2010, in a Salt Lake City hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1932, to Pat and Urenia Ryan in Blackfoot, Idaho, and attended school in West Yellowstone and Bozeman.

Patrick was enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1951to 1955.

He was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism and confirmed on Oct. 30, 1957, at Elm Lutheran Church in Ogden, Utah, where he also married Arline Carlson on July 12, 1957. They made their home in Salt Lake City where they raised their six children. He was a humorous and loving father.

Patrick served in various positions at St. John's Lutheran Church as his family grew. After retirement he joined Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bountiful to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them.

He had retired from the U. of U. Hospital and was enjoying life; traveling to Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Ireland and the Bahamas. When he was not traveling, he made his home in West Yellowstone, where he was known as PaPa Pat.

He is survived by four children, Kevin of West Yellowstone, Claudia (Raymond) Stewart of Woods Cross, Utah, Shawn (Myra) of Aptos, Calif., and Shannon Sanders of Bountiful, Utah; six grandchildren, Tyrone (Lindsay) of Las Vegas, Nev., Rhiannon of Woods Cross, Utah, Austin, Kelaiah, Makena and Malaki of Aptos, Calif.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, and two sons.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 1840 So. 75 E., Bountiful, Utah, with Pastor Jason Krause officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. There will be a private family disposition of cremated remains.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the worship fund at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

I have to say that I was shocked to hear the passing of your father. It was so nice that you brought him into Tres Hombres to see me this year. Pat will truely be missed. Your family has been a friend of our family for many years. Stephen Weiss wanted to let you know that your father will be deeply missed and he will keep you in his prayers.

I remember Pat from St. John's Lutheran Church. Airline and him were very special people in my life. Pat was always good with my children. A couple of the grandchildren were the same ages as my youngest and grandchild. Airline even played the organ at my wedding. They lived around the corner from my sister on 500 East. I just want to say that you were blessed to have them both as your parents. Pat was one great man and is with our Lord now and smiling down on us....Robin Stewart Ericksen
