Jean Saunders Obituary

Jean Olive Wallin Saunders, 89, of Anchorage, Alaska, peacefully joined the Lord Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017.

A 3 p.m. memorial service in celebration of her life will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

Jean was born on Aug. 17, 1927, to Ernest and Frieda Wallin in Stamford Connecticut near Darien Connecticut where she grew up.

Jean worked as an executive secretary, assistant to editors, and as office manager over a period of years. She took advantage of in-depth musical training and professional performance experience, studying voice and piano in private instruction. She sang in several opera companies and many church choirs, was a member of NATS, and had given concerts in America, Canada, Germany and Austria. She taught voice both privately and at UAA.

After marriage and while raising 3 children, she became private and social secretary to Charles A. Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh in 1957 for 18 years.

Singing gave her life, "to create a sense of worth and love around all of us."

Jean gave freely of her time to support other singers and has been known to give impromptu voice lessons while being wheeled into surgery!

Jean is survived by three children, six grandchildren and her sister in Montana.

In lieu of flowers the family created the Jean O Saunders Music Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Mary's Church, 2222 E Tudor Rd., Anchorage, AK 99507.
