Donald Harvey Obituary

Donald L. Harvey, 88, of Livingston, died at his home Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 2008.

Harvey was born July 29, 1920, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of William W. and Exie M. (Lindley) Harvey. He spent his early life and attended schools in California, Mo., before attending the University of Missouri, where he received a bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1942. While at the university he participated in several sports, including basketball, football and tennis.

In September 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman on the Manhattan Project (development of the atomic bomb) in Los Alamos, N.M/. during World War II. While in New Mexico, he met Ruth E. Showman, and they were married in Bernadillo, N.M. on May 22, 1945.

From 1946 to 1950, Harvey played professional basketball in the National Basketball League (NBL). In 1950, he played with the Stars of America team against the Harlem Globetrotters on their European tour. His other varied careers included running a book store businesses, being a restaurateur and cattle ranching. In 2006 he moved to Livingston.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Harvey of Livingston; two sons, Tim Harvey and his wife, Susann of Bozeman, and Don C. Harvey of Sheridan, Colo.; a daughter, Wendy A. Harvey of Livingston and Colorado; two brothers, John F. "Jack" Harvey of Las Vegas, Nev., and James G. "Jerry" Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William W. Harvey; a sister, Patricia Jeans; and a son, Col. Mark Harvey.

Family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston.
