Chester H. "Chet" Anderson, 99, of Bozeman, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at his home, 11 days short of his 100th birthday.

Chet was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Bottineau, N.D., to Halvor and Clara (Absalonson) Anderson. He graduated from Flathead County High School in 1933 before attending Bemis Business College in Kalispell. He joined the Army Air Force on July 27, 1942 and was honorably discharged Oct. 6, 1945. During that time, he completed 30 missions based in England.

On March 16, 1946, Chet married Helen Cochran in Kalispell. Chet worked in various positions before beginning his favorite employment of Game Warden for the Montana State Fish and Game. He held this position for 20 years, retiring in 1974. He served as Game Warden in Libby and Bozeman. He loved being in the mountains.

Chet enjoyed baseball, horseback riding, hiking, and particularly loved skiing. He was one of the first skiers at Big Mountain, hiking up on Saturdays after work, staying in the Hell Roaring cabin overnight and skiing down one run on Sunday.

Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Anderson; daughter, Marcia (Jim) Jarrett; son, Greg (Jennifer) Anderson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at First Presbyterian Church in Bozeman, where he was a member since 1963.
