Christine Munson Obituary

Thirty-one years of the extraordinary life of Christine Anne Munson came to a peaceful end on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, with her loving family by her side.

She was born to Steven and Julie Munson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Oct. 14, 1982. She lived, loved and laughed in Cedar Rapids until moving to Bozeman in the fall of 1999.

Christine attended and graduated from Bozeman High School in 2003. While at Bozeman High School, she was honored to be the manager of the cheerleading squad and was selected as the most inspirational student at the high school and biggest athletic supporter.

In 2003, she was selected to represent her state and her country at the Special Olympics World Games in Dublin, Ireland in the sport of swimming, where she won two gold medals. Along with her two gold medals, she also won numerous other medals on the state and national level in the sports of swimming, bowling, basketball, and skiing.

She worked in a number of customer service industry jobs, but her favorite place that she worked was the GranTree restaurant where she was employed for six years. Over those six years she received numerous accolades for her customer service to its patrons and for her outgoing personality.

Christine was a huge fan of WWE wrestling, Hannah Montana and country music, and if the music was playing, she could always be found on the dance floor. Anytime she could, a bowling alley was a place she enjoyed to try and beat her family for bragging rights. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was in person or over the phone. She was always the life of the party whenever she was in attendance, making people laugh with a silly face or a joke. Her outgoing personally and zest for life helped her to overcome and excel over the challenges she had in it.

Christine is survived by her parents, Steve and Julie Munson of Bozeman; sister, Stefanie and her husband, Brandon Hale, of Bozeman; brother, Dirk Munson and his wife, Karen, of Bethesda, Md.; brother, Drew Munson and his future wife, Chelsea Buker, and Christine's pride and joy, her niece and nephew, Maicyn and Maddux Munson, all from Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandmother, Joyce Munson of Cedar Rapids; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

An open house will be held Monday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service, with a Celebration of Christine's Life to begin at 5 p.m. A celebration of her life will also be held in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial gifts can be directed to Special Olympics of Montana (www.somt.org) or Eagle Mount Bozeman (www.eaglemount.org). These two organizations held a dear place in Christine's heart.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. www.dokkennelson.com.

Dear Julie and Steve, Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Christine. We were so blessed to have Christine as a member of the Outreach Bobcat Special Olympics Aquatics team. Christine brought a shy smile and strong sense of perseverance and determination to each practice and competition. We will miss Christine dearly; we trust she is in God's loving arms now, swimming the fly, free and breast stroke beautifully in heaven's eternal waters. Coaches Kris, McKinley and Laina

I've know Christine since she was in Preschool, but really had a chance to get to know her during her time with Discovery Living. Christine was always full of zest and had a spark for life that delighted and amused those around her. Christine tackled every task with vigor and intensity, and was always willing to try new things. Christine was a good friend to those around her, and became like family to those of us who worked with her at Discovery Living. I have so many wonderful memories of our time together, and will always remember Christine with a smile.

So very Tough to put into words describing the loss of such a wonderful person, Christine. From child to adult, from girl to lady, to be part of Christine's life was a pleasure for ALL! Her life was proof POSITIVE of God's beautiful children on this Earth. God's plan to bring Christine home in eternity was early, but she is now in a better place in God's arms! God's love to the "Tina" Munson Family!
