Donald H. Peterson of Ronan passed away on Dec. 2, 2012. Don was born June 22, 1931 in Mammoth, Wyo. to Henry and Esther A. Peterson where his father was employed by the Yellowstone National Park Co. They moved to Bozeman in 1944 and he graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1950. He went to work for Mountain States Telephone Co. and took a leave of absence to serve in the Marine Corps for three years, resuming his career with "Ma Bell" until he retired in March 1986.

Don excelled in football, loved to hunt and fish and was an avid golfer. He married Phyllis Boding Gander in 1973. He realized his dream and built a home on Flathead Lake in Polson where they lived until they moved to Ronan in May 2005. They spent their winters in Queen Valley, Ariz. for 19 years.
Don had a natural talent for carving and made miniature, detailed carvings of elk, bear and birds from elk and deer horns. He also made items from wood such as casserole boats and foot stool rockers. While in Arizona he attended classes and made several Kachina dolls.
He was preceded in death by son, Wayne and a sister, Joan Milam. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis and daughters, Dianne Peterson, Lois Wold and Dawna Foote. He is also survived by extended family, Ross Gander, Colleen Mattson and Maureen Moya. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Hardin, Miranda Schmidt, Andrew Clear, Becky Clayton, Samantha Wold, Kerry Hasenoehrl, Heather and Jaysen Foote, Lara Radle, Levi Mattson, Amy Rombyer, and Evan and Stacy Gander, plus great-grandchildren, Philip, Logan, Kieran and Byron.
