Gary R. Paulson, 75, of Billings, passed quietly Friday June 14, surrounded by his three sons, sharing memories and stories of a life well-lived.

He was born in Great Falls, Mont. to Henry Paulson and Florence Lodmell Paulson. Raised in Malta, Mont., he attended public schools, graduating from Malta High School. He attended Northern Montana College and the University of Montana, receiving a business degree in accounting.
In October of 1963, he married Beverly Omdahl in Malta and moved to Billings where they raised three sons. He began his professional career as an accountant in the trucking industry, eventually joining the staff of Smith Funeral Chapels, retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting with his crew, camping, travel, and helping friends and family with home improvement projects. He had a special talent for leatherwork and cribbage. He was active in the Billings Jaycees, Boy Scouts, and the Elks Club. He was a proud neighbor on Christmas Wreath Lane, and eagerly helped with the annual decorations and festivities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas, and his wife Beverly. He is survived by his three sons, Vance (Joanne) of Bozeman, Darren (Trudi) of Lake City, Minn., and Craig (Vickie) of Billings. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 22 at Smith West Chapel with interment at Terrace Gardens, and reception immediately following. Family visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 21 at the West Chapel.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of St. Johns for their care, compassion and humor in his final years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Ministries.
