William "Bill" Carl Grubbs passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2014. He was born Sept. 12, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Carl and Viola (Breitner) Grubbs.
The Guest Book is expired.
Bill moved to Pontiac, Michigan when he was 13 years old and graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1943. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1945. Bill attended Oberlin College and Eastern Michigan University where he played college football. He received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University.
Bill married Dorothy Stewart, the love of his life, in 1949. Bill and Dorothy were married for 64 wonderful years. Bill and Dorothy made their home in Michigan, a brief time in Illinois and Montana and then 30 years in Fort Collins Colorado. During their time in Fort Collins, Bill volunteered much of his time with the Golden Kiwanis. He mentored students, provided Meals on Wheels and worked as a volunteer with the Saints. Bill was also active in the Elks Club and was a lifetime member. Bill and Dorothy moved to Bozeman in 2012 to be close to their son Bruce.
Bill loved his work and had a varied and successful career of over 50 years in retail management, during which he was able to provide an enjoyable and comfortable life for his family, including sending all four of his kids through college and graduate school.
Bill's passion in later life was his family, especially grandchildren, taking care of his wife Dorothy and discussing politics. He had many interesting political discussions with his grown children. Bill greatly enjoyed the two years he lived in Bozeman Lodge and made many great friends there. He enjoyed serving as chairman of the Dining Room Committee and being a part of starting a new church service on Sundays. Bill was a man who clearly demonstrated perseverance in life, a real concern for the future of and a deep love for his family and a great sense of humor into his very last days. He was a great example to us all in so many ways. He will be very much missed
His wife Dorothy, who passed away Aug. 30, 2013, preceded Bill in death. He is survived by his sons, Bruce (Robin Thomas) of Bozeman, Ken (Colleen) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Bill Jr. (Cheryl) of Moraga, CA; daughter, Jill (Mark) Grummon of Denver, Colorado; and 10 grandchildren.
