Arthur James Milley, 87, of Bozeman passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 with his wife and son, Allen at his bedside. Arthur was under the care of Hospice of Southwest Montana since March and died at Bridger Healthcare of Bozeman.

Arthur was born on Jan. 6, 1925 in Everett, Mass. to Chesley and Gertrude Milley. After graduating from Everett High School, he joined the Army, and during World War II, served in the 10th Mountain Division, 126th Engineers Battalion, in active duty in the Italian Alps along the Po River. After the war, he worked doing deliveries for dairies. He then attended the American Institute of Banking in Boston. He worked for Middlesex County National Bank in Wilmington, Mass., First Bank and Trust in Chelmsford, Mass. as Bank Manager, State Street Bank in Boston as Auditor, and Bank of New Hampshire in Concord, N.H. as Bank Manager and Loan Officer. Following his retirement, he worked as a part-time clerk for True Value Hardware in Yarmouth, Mass.

Arthur married Thelma Jeane Bower on Sept. 6, 1946. The couple had two sons, Glenn Paul and Allen James; he enjoyed being a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader for over 25 years. The family soon shared Art's love of skiing and hiking. Arthur and Thelma raised their children in Wilmington, Mass., lived in West Campton, N.H. for 18 years; moved and lived in East Dennis, Mass. for 22 years. When Arthur was in failing health, they moved to Bozeman, Mont. in August 2009 to be close to their son, Allen and family, of Belgrade. Since living in Bozeman, the couple attended and were members of Bozeman United Methodist Church.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Chesley Gordon and Gertrude Lilley Milley; sister, Mary Milley List; and brother, Lloyd Leshane Milley. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Milley Simensen, of Wakefield, Mass.; his wife, Thelma Bower Milley, of Bozeman; sons, Glenn Paul (Carol Bradford) Milley, of Huntersville, N.C., and Allen James (Cheryl McGee) Milley, of Belgrade; four grandsons, Ross G. and Kevin P. Milley, of Mass., Brad J. (Kerry), of Ft. Collins, Colo., Aric M., of Bozeman; one granddaughter, Megan Milley Colson (Daniel); and one great grandson, Ezra, currently in So. Korea.

Cremation has taken place at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service in Bozeman. A celebration of his life and private family inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Northside United Methodist Church in Brewster, Mass.
