Our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur Leum, went home to be with his Lord on March 10, 2010, at the age of 81.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born on July 8, 1928, in Hillsboro, N.D., to Ingvald and Agnes Leum. He was raised on a farm in the Mayville, N.D., area.
He met Hazel Naas of Kloten, N.D., while she was attending school at Mayville Teachers College. They were married on July 23, 1949, in Moorhead, Minn. They lived in McVille, N.D., where Art farmed for many years. They then moved to Montana and spent some time in Bozeman and Big Timber before making Belgrade their home in 1990.
Art and Hazel enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage before her passing on July 10, 2009. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Belgrade.
After farming, Art worked as a Ford auto mechanic and later went into the logging business until his retirement. He enjoyed being outdoors and was eager to go camping and fishing at the first sign of spring! With his background as a mechanic, he beamed when the men in his family would ask him a mechanics-related question, even if they owned a Chevy! He loved to tinker with old engines.
Although he was a quiet man, he had a great sense of humor and a heartwarming smile. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. His famous saying, "Take it cool," will be missed by all.
Art and Hazel were blessed with five children, Larry Leum of Belgrade, Wes (Diane) Leum of Bozeman, Shari (Jeff) Karn of Clarkston, Barry Leum of Cameron, Shane (Michelle) Leum of Churchill; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Jerry (Crystal) Karn (Morgan and Nathan); Holly (Don) Duncan (Harper and Piper); Laurie Johnson (Tim, Kelly and Kasey); Brandon Leum; Jenny (Ryan) Matzick (Tristan, Michael and Daniel); Gus, Bjorn and Gabe Leum; and Colten and Mariah Leum. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Ulrich of Florida; and a brother, Harry Leum of Cummings, N.D.; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Ennis Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 203 Jackrabbit Lane, Belgrade, MT 59714.
