Barbara "Bobbie" Jane Sprock, 80, of Bozeman passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009.
The Guest Book is expired.
Bobbie was born on Sept. 19, 1928, in Pittsford, Vt., to Clinton and Clara (Clifford) Pratt. She attended Bryant College in Providence, R.I., on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree from the School of Secretarial Science. Bobbie was the team captain of the Bryant College women's basketball team.
She married the love of her life, Vernon Sprock, on Oct. 28, 1950, in San Francisco, Calif.
Bobbie, along with her husband, Vernon, owned and operated the ski resort, Sierra Ski Ranch, in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., for 40 years. Many Tahoe residents remember Bobbie as the "voice on the radio" as each morning she would personally call in the snow and ski report. Bobbie was also a weather observer and reported the weather conditions for Echo Summit each day to the National Weather Service. During that time period she recorded many record snowfall amounts.
After Bobbie retired from the ski business, she enjoyed volunteering at the Tahoe Community Church Food Pantry.
Later Bobbie moved to Montana where she and her husband owned and operated the V & B Ranch in Wilsall. She attended Kirkwood Baptist Church. Bobbie was always a hard worker, but she also loved to read and bake. Above all else, she loved her family. Bobbie touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Sprock of Bozeman; children, Kathy (Robert) Pavich, and Peter (Juli) Sprock; grandchildren, Christopher Pavich, and Ty Sprock, all of Zephyr Cove, Nev., Richard (Holly) Pettay; three great-grandchildren of Carson City, Nev.; and brother, Clinton Pratt of Proctor, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, the Bobbie Sprock Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created for the benefit of athletes through Far West Skiing, Inc., a 501 3c non-profit organization: Far West Skiing, Inc., 18635 Alexandra Way, Grass Valley, CA 95949; www.fwskiing.org.
