Betty Jean Callin of Bozeman was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at the age of 88, from complications with pancreatic cancer.
Betty was born Oct. 19, 1924 to Virgil and Frances Catron in Fairfax, Mo. She lived in Fairfax during her school years. Upon high school graduation, Betty and her family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where she worked as a phone company operator.
In 1946, Betty was engaged to her future husband, Scott Callin, while he was home on leave from the U.S. Army before going to China. After Scott returned home, they married on July 28, 1946.
They moved to Spokane, Wash. and then Roseburg, Ore. before settling in Bozeman in 1957. She worked as an operator for the phone company in Bozeman and Livingston, Mont. until her retirement.
Betty LOVED the Montana State Bobcats, Seattle Mariners, golfing, and playing bingo. Betty and Scott enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Australia, Hawaii, and the continental United States. They settled in the Phoenix, Arizona area for six months of every year for 21 years.
Betty is survived by her husband, Scott; her daughters, Barbara Fenno (Ken) of Manhattan, Mont. and Connie Putnam (Andy) of Oelwein, Iowa; five grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Marcy Fenno East (Tim) of Phoenix, Mark Fenno (Chrissy) of Manhattan, Bob Fenno (Rochelle) of Manhattan, Jim Putnam (Jenny) of Columbia, Mo., and Brian Putnam (Codi) of Dubuque, Iowa; and 15 great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy in the later years of her life.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Frances Catron, her in-laws, Walter and Mary Callin, and a brother-in-law, Spencer Callin.
A celebration of Betty's life will begin with visitation and viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service, 113 S. Willson Ave. in Bozeman. A private family burial will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman. Memorials may be given to the in the name of Betty J. Callin.
